This one-day Duty to Manage Asbestos Training course is designed to provide employers, managers, and duty holders with a comprehensive understanding of their responsibilities under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012) to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises. The course covers the legal obligations, risk assessments, and strategies required to manage asbestos safely and effectively, ensuring the health and safety of employees, contractors, and anyone who may be affected by the presence of asbestos in the workplace.

  • Understanding Asbestos: Gain a clear understanding of asbestos, its properties, the health risks associated with exposure, and the types of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) that may be present in buildings.
  • Legal Responsibilities: Learn about the legal duties of employers and duty holders under CAR 2012, specifically the "Duty to Manage Asbestos," and the need for proper risk management when dealing with asbestos in non-domestic properties.
  • Asbestos Surveys and Risk Assessments: Understand the importance of carrying out thorough asbestos surveys and risk assessments to identify the location, condition, and type of asbestos-containing materials in a building or site.
  • Creating an Asbestos Management Plan: Learn how to develop and implement an effective Asbestos Management Plan (AMP) to ensure ongoing safety and compliance. This includes managing risks, establishing procedures for safe handling, and maintaining records.
  • Asbestos Register: Understand how to create and maintain an up-to-date Asbestos Register that tracks the location and condition of ACMs within a building or facility, including the responsibilities of those who access and manage the register.
  • Control Measures and Safe Work Practices: Learn how to implement control measures, such as signage, labelling, and safe work practices, to prevent accidental exposure to asbestos fibres. Understand how to monitor and manage asbestos risks in the workplace.
  • Training and Communication: Understand the importance of providing training to employees and contractors who may be exposed to asbestos and ensuring clear communication regarding the risks and procedures for managing asbestos safely.
  • Emergency Procedures: Gain knowledge on how to respond to incidents involving asbestos, including accidental damage or disturbance of ACMs, and the immediate steps required to minimize exposure.
